Unique OpportunityĪs host to Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (SSMT), our summer professional theatre company, we offer unique opportunities to our students. In Professional Preparation you will build a website, learn to write cover letters, and create your resume as you build your portfolio. After faculty evaluation, during your final year you will be assigned two capstone projects. This work provides ample opportunity for hands on work with equipment and technological tools used in the industry including professional level ETC EOS Family lighting consoles including the EOS-Ti that are used on Broadway. During your advanced study you will have classroom and production work on multiple productions.

Third-Fourth YearsĪt the end of your second year you will progress either into Advanced Lighting Technology or Advanced Lighting Design (developing the design eye through careful training in color theory and optical technique). Your first two years will comprise of working through the collaborative process in Lighting Design through intensive production work. Throughout our Lighting Design program, you will have classroom instruction and lighting lab work from the very beginning. First-Second Yearsįirst Theatre Design and Production students experience the beginning curriculum sequence, with introduction to Introduction to Theatrical Design, Intro to Theatrical Production, Theatre Drawing, and Graphic Arts. Over the course of your four years in the program, you will gain actual experience in every type of major production responsibility within your emphasis, including multiple chances to work with professional artists in seeing productions through from start to finish. Our small class sizes allow for one-on-one, hands-on mentoring. New/revised emphasis added to program - Sound Design & Reinforcement.Production Collaboration class houses upper level design/tech classes, and focuses on collaborative work.Theatre Design & Production Internship class is now available for all TDP students.New courses added including an upper level stage management course, 21st Century Production Industry Preparation and Introduction to Design.Period Styles and Décor combines History of Fashion I & II and History of Décor, as the study of historical periods is germane to both.Special Topics classes in costuming and production house both current (e.g., Scenic Painting) and new classes ( Dyework/Millinery) and provide opportunity to introduce additional topics in the future.
